Students are largely left to their own devices upon graduation. When a coordinated, curriculum-infused plan is in place, everyone wins: students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the institution.

Benefits may include:

  • Alumni. A transition program provides two benefits with regard to alumni. First, alumni leave with positive feelings about the university. Second, the use of recent alumni to lead sessions focuses on sharing of time and talent instead of treasure.

  • Economic Development. Many organizations are not large enough to provide proper onboarding for recent graduates who become new employees. This program does some of the initial work for small business.

  • College Affiliation Equity. A student’s preparedness to navigate life beyond college often varies greatly depending upon their major. Are finance majors ready to create budgets and understand investing? Likely, yes. Are education majors? Likely, no.

  • Level Playing Field. Research indicates students are graduating with varying levels of life preparedness depending on their several demographics (major, historically-marginalized groups,, first-generation status). This program provides equity to all graduating students by supplying information.

  • Campus Collaboration. This program encourages meaningful integration between student and academic affairs.

  • Recruitment. When parents know their children will be more prepared to leave college by understanding their role in financial, social, and career affairs they may be more apt to push enrollment.

  • Student Wellness. This programming provides information which reduces anxiety of students nearing graduation. By reducing this stress, students can better focus on being successful and exhibiting positive behaviors in their final courses.

  • System Exit. Students are not just leaving the university. They are leaving a system of which they have been a part of for nearly 20 years.

  • Underemployment. Students without access to mentors, networking, or knowledge of career processes often end up in opportunities that are unfilling - both monetarily and purpose.

  • Public Responsiveness. Are students ready for the “real world?” It is often a criticism of higher eduction and this program answers that question, clearly. Yes, yes they are.
